A domain name and webhosting is all you need to start a successful blog and make money. Don't let anybody tell you any different. Godaddy is a solid registrar because they charge cheaper prices for .coms and continually offer discounts. When you buy a domain, I highly, highly recommend you include the keywords you want to rank for in your name. For example, if you want to rank for woodshop tools, the ideal name would be woodshoptools.com but if that's taken you could always add online, blog, store, etc. to the end of the domain. This makes it easier to rank for those keyterms.
This is pretty freaking cheap deal on web hosting. When I write about you needed a web host, this is all you need. A web host with Wordpress platform and unlimited domains for you to do your damage on. I recommend iPage and I wish I had chosen it over some of my current hosts that have jacked up my prices. If you're ready to start a blog, all you need is a cheap hosting account just like this.
Find out Google's estimate of how many times keywords get searched using the Google Adwords Keywords Tool. This is a very important tool for determining what keywords you want to target on your blog. For example, you may want to target a specific keyword but find out that Google estimates it only gets searched 700 times per month. You look up another keyword and find out it gets searched 4,000 a month. This is the better keyword to target and what you should try to include in your domain name. Remember that even though this tool is from Google, it is not 100% accurate. Still, it is the best tool currently available. To use the tool, first go to the top right of the page and click "previous interface". When you get to the old interface page, toggle the settings to match type "exact" and you will see Google's count on how many times a keyword string gets searched per month.
If you want to start slow and get a feel for making money via the search engines aka Google for money for free, then I recommend you try Hubpages. Hubpages will pay you 60% of page impression revenue generated through your articles. This basically means your page is a money maker for you 60% of the time. The advantage of this system is Hubpages is already established and has good, strong natural ranking in Google whereas a new blog won't. The disadvantage with this system is you don't get to keep all the money yourself and aren't building up your own blog or site for the long term.
Another popular article writing site that pays you is InfoBarrel. InfoBarrel is the same concept as Hubpages except for they pay you for 75% of page impressions! They don't rank as well as Hubpages in search engines but I've earned a few dollars from them and, again, more links to your website that earns you a 100% of page impressions.
For those who have reached level 2 status, you now realize a lot of the tools it takes to make a powerhouse, money making blog. When you're ready to take it up a notch and start accumulating some serious wealth, you need to multiply your efforts. You can hire some great bloggers and link builders on ODesk for cheap. If you've got just a little capital, I highly recommend investing it into outsourcing your work to build a network of money making blogs. This is basically what all the big Internet Marketers (IMers) do to cash in. Remember, the goal is to do as little work possible while making the most net profit possible.
